Former Magna Vista football coach Joe Beckelheimer has reapplied for his job after he was cleared of one misdemeanor charge and found guilty of a reduced charge Tuesday in Chatham. Beckelheimer was found not guilty of public intoxication by a Pittsylvania County General District Court judge. The judge amended a charge of reckless driving to improper driving and fined Beckelheimer $100. The charges stemmed from a single-car accident on U.S. 58 West in Pittsylvania County on Sept. 18.

Driver Guilty in Fatal I-81 Wreck.
A judge found a California truck driver guilty Thursday of reckless driving in an accident that killed a married couple on Interstate 81 in February. Rockingham County General District Court Judge John A. Paul found Uy Tan Hong, 33, guilty of the misdemeanor charge and sentenced him to a 90-day suspended jail sentence. Paul also revoked Hong’s driver’s license for six months and issued him a $1,000 fine.
