Police had reason to believe that driver of vehicle may have been engaged in criminal activity, justifying investigative stop, when driver attempted to hurriedly escape parking lot after occupants of companion vehicle were arrested in course of undercover drug operation. Harmon v. Com,15 Va.App. 440, 425 S.E.2d 77(1992). In the same case itself, the court observed that Police officer had reasonable suspicion that defendant’s purpose in making U-turn as vehicle approached traffic checkpoint was to avoid roadblock due to violation of licensing or registration regulations or commission of criminal offense and thus subsequent stop did not violate Fourth Amendment; defendant’s U-turn was made abruptly at crossover which was last place to turn before reaching checkpoint.
